DevOps and CI/CD

Shipping should be boring.

GitHub Actions Docker Nginx Deployer

DevOps and CI/CD CI/CD is an automated path from code to live: tests run on every change, the release happens in one step, and going back to the previous version is quick.

Deploying by dragging files over FTP is how live sites break on a Friday. A pipeline that tests, builds and deploys on merge turns a release into a non event.

What is in it

  • 01Version control and branching that a small team can keep to
  • 02Automated tests and a build on every merge
  • 03One command deploys, with a rollback that works
  • 04Staging that matches production closely enough to be useful

There is no rate card on this page. The honest price depends on what we find in your current system, and we would rather look first than publish a number we would have to take back.

  1. 01

    A call, then a scope

Half an hour on the phone, then a written scope with stages, timeline and price. You can take that document to anyone else for a second quote.

  2. 02

    Stage by stage

Each stage is fixed in scope and billed on completion. If you want to stop after stage two, you stop after stage two and keep what is built.

  3. 03

    Handover that means something

Source code in your repository, hosting and domain in your name, a written note of how it works, and training for the people who will use it.

DevOps and CI/CD, in short

01We are small. Do we need this?
You need the boring parts: a repository, an automatic backup, and a way to put a fix live without hand copying files. The elaborate pipeline can wait until the team is bigger.
02What does this change day to day?
Releases stop being events. Tests run before anything goes out, the deploy is one step, and going back to the previous version is quick, so a small fix stops waiting for a safe Friday.
03Can this be added to an existing project?
Yes, and it is usually the cheapest improvement available. Getting the code into version control and the deployment automated pays for itself the first time something has to be undone in a hurry.
